Teachers have the option to choose between two modes in the Early Reading Trio modules: linked mode and independent mode.

Linked mode is the default setting. In linked mode, students first complete a set of four words in Early Words, then read a story in Early Stories containing those four words, and finally write a story in Early Writing. On the student dashboard, there is only one button for Early Reading Trio. However, separate areas for progress reporting are displayed, and the time for each module is tracked separately. In linked mode, students do not repeat words.

In independent mode, students work on each module separately. The student dashboard displays a separate button for each module, and sessions are completed according to teacher settings. Each session is timed separately for each module. In independent mode, students repeat words and stories daily, based on teacher settings.

Teachers can adjust linked and independent modes for their class by:

  1. Sign in to your MobyMax teacher account.
  2. Click on the "Tools" tab at the top of the page.
  3. Select the “Settings” button.
  4. Click on the "Modules" link at the top of the page.
  5. Select the "Early Reading and Phonics" option on the left sidebar.
