MobyMax provides support for FTP imports to schools and districts that possess an active school or district license. District administrators can utilize our .csv templates and upload them to our server via their FTP client, which is a convenient option. Administrators can automate this process by configuring a periodic automatic upload from their client to our FTP server if preferred.

To download Moby FTP templates:

  1. Sign in to your MobyMax district administrator account.
  2. Click on the "Auto Roster" button.
  3. Select the "Moby FTP" tab at the top of the page.
  4. On the right side of the screen, you can download our FTP templates for students and teachers via the "Download CSV template for students" and "Download CSV template for teachers" links.


The teacher template allows you to fill in either the NCES School ID field or the Exact School Name field but you will not need to enter both.

To view your Moby FTP username and set a password:

  1. Sign in to your MobyMax district administrator account.
  2. Click on the "Auto Roster" button.
  3. Select the "Moby FTP" tab at the top of the page.
  4. Scroll down to the "Step 3 - Automatic FTP Upload" header.
  5. In the "Enter new password" box, type the password you would like to use for the Moby FTP server.
  6. If you have an existing Moby FTP password, enter it in the box next to "Enter existing password" and click the "Save" button.


To validate your Moby FTP files before sending them through your client:

  1. Sign in to your MobyMax district administrator account.
  2. Click on the "Auto Roster" button.
  3. Select the "Moby FTP" tab at the top of the page.
  4. Locate the "Step 2 - Validate CSV Files" header.
  5. Use the "Upload" button to locate your updated files for both teachers and students.
  6. Select the "OK" button on the pop-up window.
  7. Once the validation is completed, you can click on the "Import logs and reports" link on the right side of the screen and then on the import message in blue text.


The import validation logs are useful to spot any potential file errors before submitting them to the MobyFTP server.

Note: When uploading files for validation or directly to our Moby FTP server, the files must be named students.csv and teachers.csv using the MobyMax templates. By default, the templates will download to your device with the correct file name.
